Mac OS X

If you buy this Software on the App Store from Apple, there is nothing to do to install this Software. It will be automatically installed when you download it for the App Store. Otherwise, you should follow the following instructions.

  1. Open the FindReplaceIt-x.y.z-setup.dmg
  2. Read carefully the End User License Agreement in Documentation/License.rtf.
  3. Drag & drop Find & Replace It!.app into your /Applications folder or wherever you want. You might use the Applications symbolic link provided in the DMG.
  4. You can run Find & Replace It!.app by simply double-clicking on it, from the folder where it has been installed.
  5. For users of Mac OS X 10.8 and higher, you might have to change the default Security & Privacy settings in the System Preferences in order to allow the application to run. The application is signed with a certificate named dProg - Philippe Docourt: Application issued by our own Certificate Autority (CA). Therefore we are considered as identified developers. Hence, turning the setting Allow application downloaded from: to Mac App Store and identified developers must do the job.

Customizing Installation

In order to use Qt's libraries that are installed on your system instead of those distributed alongside the application, you have to:

If you want to use your own version of Qt's libraries without modifying your system, you can replace the appropriate files in the locations mentioned above.

Your are free to change the icons by replacing those distributed alongside the application, in the resources folder. On Windows and Linux the icons are located in <app/install/dir>/res/images. On Mac OS X, they are located in <app/install/dir>Find & Replace It!.app/Contents/Resources/images.

If you want a portable installation of Find & Replace It!, then you need to have the software settings stored locally with the executable, instead of into the default location used on your platform (see where the settings are stored in the chapter Uninstall). This is easily achieved by creating a folder named settings right beside the executable named FindReplaceIt (on Mac OS X, this means the folder must be in FindReplaceItd.app/Contents/MacOS/, but right in the installation directory on Linux and Windows). There is more information about what is stored in that settings folder in the user's manual (PDF) of Find & Replace It!, in the chapter Using Local Storage for Settings.

Uninstall

Generalities

When using this software, some settings files might be generated. The settings files location varies with the platform. All these files and directories are prefixed by either dProg or FindReplaceIt.

The settings might also be stored beside the application, instead of the default folder as explained below. In particular, this is by default the case when using a no-installer distribution on Windows or Linux since version 2.1.1 (such a distribution does not explicitely exist on Mac OS X since there is no installer by default, nevertheless the settings are stored in their default location on Mac OS X, into the user's home folder). To know more about this feature, see the chapter Customizing Installation in this document.

Until version 1.3.x the following folders might have been used:

Since version 1.4.x the following folders might be used:

Since version 2.0.2 the following folders might be used:

NOTE: These files are not removed automatically during uninstallation. They are indeed preserved for future installation or upgrades. If you do not need it anymore, please remove them manually.

Windows

To remove Find & Replace It! from your computer, go to the Start menu, search for dProg/Find & Replace It!/<version> folder into the program list, then click Uninstall.

Linux

Find & Replace It! can be removed through the uninstall script:

  1. Open a terminal
  2. Type: <FindReplaceIt/install/dir>/uninstall.sh (where <FindReplaceIt/install/dir> is your installation directory)

NOTE: This will remove all MIME-types associated to Find & Replace It! as well as menu entries. If you have many installations of the software in different locations, this script will remove the software only from the current installation directory. The other installations will be left untouched even if MIME-types associations are removed anyway.

Mac OS X

To remove Find & Replace It! from your computer, simply drag & drop the installed bundle (Find & Replace It!.app) to the trash. Optionally, you might remove the package receipt located in /Library/Receipts/FindReplaceIt.pkg. This file was only used when doing an installation to detect previous installations. It is not used anymore since version 1.0.
